WIP: Soul = Consciousness

Being on the cusp of Gen Z, I feel the word 'soul' can be understood quite differently to those in previous generations. That being said, I don't think many people try to understand what a soul is, it's invisible, it's vague.
Recently I started thinking more about this word as it seems to play a big role in some peoples' lives. A friend of mine in his very early 40s told me the soul is the consciousness. He's a very religious man, for some context. When you are at the cross roads of making a decision, the morally better choice or the worse... Let's paint a picture.
- You are going to go out to the city on a night on the weekend because you are bored with some friends/staying at home.
- You see an easy way out of getting blamed for something, taking the longer path and you do it/or you take the time to do it 'properly'
- You are somewhat unmotivated to go exercise so you don't/you get up and do it
The list could go on. And the decision making process (I often talk about this) is incredibly difficult. It seems 50/50 like a hard multiple choice and you got to pick the option that is 1% better. And hindsight/human nature will tell you your choice was wrong/consider what ifs.
The point is... I'm starting that our consciousness is important. It gets shaped every day/every second of the day. If you follow down the darker path, it may cloud your ability to know what is RIGHT/WRONG. Who knows what is right or wrong? Precisely. We don't really know what is wrong or right. That is exactly why we must strive to understand what is right and wrong. Without that, we are the same as animals. It is very, very difficult.
Keep the clarity, keep practicing the pauses, be brave, be fearful, be alive. Keep fighting through the dissonance.
P.S.: an interesting discussion I read is that the soul is IMPERSONAL and the consciousness is PERSONAL. Consciousness lives and breathes in duality with our mind and our day to day lives. TLDR: This argument is that the soul is the absolute purest form of consciousness whilst consciousness is personalised. Now how do we define pure? Well that's up to you. That makes this whole last section a huge oxymoron.
