The Travelling Duo

As time does its rounds and our circles get smaller,

Our friends from another mother, go quietly..

but surely, swept away into freedom of choices

and gripped by the shackles of learnt responsibilities.

The human in us, it clings to company,

the partner we choose is very important,

more than we will ever really know

until the comes and we are truly tested.

Surely time is the greatest test yet,

but those who remain patient will come out the other side,

still calling themselves by their real name.

When the opportunity comes to be altogether,

as one excursion of kids,

take it.

But do not obsess,

like the traveler who tried to take all the gold.

It's not possible.

It's a fine, fine line,

where it goes from pleasant, momentary nostalgia

to an aching yearn to forever be just a child.
